Aafke Romeijn (1986) had been the lead singer of all-female band Mister Blue Sky for years, when in 2010 she decided it was time to record some of the piano-based material she composed. These few songs soon turned into a full length album: Stella Must Die! It’s a record about pretty girls, secretly making out during school lunch breaks, throwing kitchen knives, and, of course, Stella. The album received substantial enthusiastic press coverage, and lead to some intensive touring around the Netherlands and the UK in 2012.

Besides all that, Aafke works as a teacher of Dutch language and literature in a grammar school, and is writing a novel about Keetje Kwant, a girl who pursues a teaching career and is fascinated by the people she encounters at her school. The novel is due in 2013.

The Guardian about Aafke

Aafke Romeijn is no shrinking violet singer-songwriter. As a solo artist, she calls to mind Amanda Palmer, not simply because this record is based heavily on piano and accordion, but because the songs are as theatrical and lyrically conceptual as Palmer’s are renowned for.
